Join our Team! The Town currently has vacancies for two full-time Groundworker positions. These positions work in our Power & Communications division on the electric side. Under the general supervision of the Line Crew Supervisor performs skilled technical work in the daily operation, installation and maintenance of the electric power distribution system.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The below list is intended to be illustrative of the responsibilities of the position and not all encompassing. The Town may change these duties at any time. Receives and/or conducts training in the following: may participate in the JourneymanLineworker Apprentice program; construction; installation of underground cable andterminations; proper use of personal protective equipment; safe work practice, including CPRand defensive driving; proper handling of hazardous material; construction standards andsafety codes; and familiarization with distribution tools and hardware.Installs and services underground power lines, transformers (including primary, secondary,single and three phase transformer connections) and poles including related equipment.Connects new, disconnects, or reconnects electric service (overhead and underground) tocustomer facilities; installs overhead service drops.Operates a variety of equipment including: motorized equipment, including heavy-duty,boom and bucket truck, tree trimming equipment, and basic hand and power tools.Frames and sets of new power poles and strings wire.Maintains and trims trees and branches which interfere with power lines, using appropriatetools.May assist with patrolling lines, performing voltage checks, inspecting electrical equipmentand troubleshooting and repair of including power outages.Attends safety meetings and may participate in safety program.Performs locate services of underground facilities.Responds to the public regarding electrical concerns and investigation of radio interferencecomplaints.Performs general maintenance of equipment including keeping trucks stocked, cleaned, andproperly maintained; may include carpentry, painting and upkeep of facilities.May perform minor testing and repairing of electrical equipment such as transformers,reclosers, ammeters, voltmeters, street lights and other items. Assists in power pole hole digging; drill preliminary holes following instructions from on-site lead worker; digs pole hole using power drills, chisel and shovel; places power poles into holes utilizing boom truck and tamps dirt to set pole.May act as lead worker and participate in the digging of power pole holes, including thedrilling of preliminary holes.Assists in performing distribution system switching operations.Performs other related work as required or assigned.
