Job Description
Position: Summer Camp Counselor
Reports to: Camp Director / Camp Manager Department: Parks & Recreation
Classification: Temporary, PTE, Non-exempt Pay Range: $18/hour
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- CPR/AED certified; or ability to obtain prior to employment
- Preferred previous experience working with children
- Must be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, able to relate well to children, and friendly.
- Valid license with reliable transportation
- Pass background check
Job Function: To provide exceptional care to students ranging in age from 5 to 12 years old. Supervising students and keeping them safe, while also creating a fun daily experience for all. The camp counselor is to directly report to their Camp Director
Essential Functions:
- Establishes a safe and fun environment
- Greets children and parents
- Programs and implements activities including arts & crafts, board games, music and dance.
- Attends to the emotional needs of students ages 5-12 and provides proper guidance as needed.
- Implements food and environmental allergy safety and treatment as needed.
- Reports any behavior or emotional situations to the Camp Director or Recreation Director as needed.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
- Provides housekeeping duties as needed including cleaning up after crafts/snack, vacuuming, etc. (Housekeeping list to be provided).
- Distributes snacks and lunches (when provided by Town).
- Attend staff meetings if and when they are needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be a self-starter and work effectively with little supervision.
- Must be flexible and adaptive to new situations.
- Ability to work well with others and coexist in potentially overwhelming situations
- Ability to effectively communicate with parents or guardians prior to, during and after camp when needed.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an outdoor space, as well as indoors when inclement, in all weather conditions and involves regular exposure to heat, rain and/or dust
Days of Camp to be provided:
Week 1: June 23rd - June 27th
Week 2: June 30th - July 3rd (4 day week)
Week 3: July 7th - July 11th
Week 4: July 14th - July 18th
Week 5: July 21st - July 25th
Week 6: July 28th - August 1st
Week 7: August 3rd - August 8th
Week 8: August 11th - August 15th
Additional days of work to include (but not limited to): Friday June 20th and Monday August 18th
