What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laborer Streets/Highways position at Town of Fairfield?
- Perform work on: road, patch oil crew, street sweeping, helper on power sweepers;
- Periodically drives jeep, handling garbage and trash;
- Operates small tractor; cutting grass, digging ditches;
- Assists craftsmen in a variety of unskilled tasks;
- Install old and new road signs; clear brush from roadside; paint center lines on pavements, rough painting on school crossing and street signs, sweeps walks;
- Remove refuse from grounds; cut, trim, water and fertilize lawns and bushes;
- Load and unload heavy material from trucks and vans; move or aid in moving furniture, equipment and large bulky items;
- During winter months -work as a helper on snow removal and miscellaneous shoveling;
- Perform related work as required
• Some knowledge of simple tools use in the maintenance and constructions
• Ability to operate simply machinery
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED
• Preference for those with CDL B License
Employee has 6 months to obtain a CDL B license. (Hourly rate $24.27 without CDL and $29.10 with CDL B)
Physical Requirements:
• Sufficient physical strength and agility and freedom from disabling defect to do heavy manual labor, occasionally under a wide variety of adverse weather conditions
