The Town of Falmouth is seeking a Seasonal Assistant Animal Control Officer to work for our Marine & Environmental Services (MES) Department from early June through Labor Day, 40 hours per week, 2 p.m. – 10 p.m. or 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., including at least one weekend day. Candidates who can also work weekends through the end of September will be given additional consideration. Please note your availability on your application.
Under the direction of the Senior Animal Control Officer, the Seasonal Assistant Animal Control Officer cares for animals being held at the dog shelter, investigates complaints and dog bites, patrols streets, and prepares a daily log and reports. This position also patrols the public beaches to ensure that dogs are not on the beaches from May 1st through October 1st, per Falmouth Town Charter 87-4.
The Seasonal Assistant Animal Control Officer also picks up injured animals, obtains medical treatment for them as required, and picks up and disposes of animal remains per state and local laws.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and experience in animal control or a related field. Candidates must have the ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with community members while explaining regulations, taking enforcement action, and investigating complaints. Most work is performed outdoors, occasionally under inclement weather conditions.
The pay for the first season of employment is $21.95/hour - $24.20/hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
