The Town is seeking applicants for the Historic Resources Coordinator. The position is permanent part time, up to an average of 29 hours a week. The position will require some weekend and/or evening availability for special events. Starting rate of pay is $20.75-$24.60 per hour.

General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate administrative work planning, coordinating and directing the Farragut Museum and other historical sites or programs. Includes oversight of volunteers, docents and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Park and Recreation Director. Leadership, direction and oversight is provided to volunteers.

Essential Functions

  • Creates design and prepares permanent and temporary museum exhibits and displays
  • Implements professional policies and procedures
  • Researches historic places, programs and objects including town lands and facilities
  • Curates the procurement and storage of the museum collection, which includes accessioning of new artifacts
  • Supervises the museum volunteers
    • Assists committee representative to staff museum shifts and events
    • Assists with the ordering of museum supplies and gift shop items
  • Maintains artifact databases, required forms, and invoices for museum
  • Plans and manages museum special events, lectures and tours; assists with additional town events as assigned
  • Coordinates Friends of the Museum Program
  • Produces publications including gallery guides
    • Assist with museum related information for newsletters
  • Maintains all files and databases for museum and public historic entities
  • Updates website listings as needed
  • Assists with budget preparation and financial reporting
  • Supports Park and Recreation Director as staff liaison for Farragut Museum Advisory Committee
  • Responds to citizen requests, questions and complaints
  • Performs other duties and coordinates other projects as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of museum software including Past Perfect and Catalog IT, policies and best practices of museum operation and artifact care; thorough knowledge of all phases of museum activities and administration; thorough knowledge of the equipment and techniques necessary to successfully coordinate museum programs; thorough knowledge of the methods involved in organizing, conducting, promoting and supervising museum activities; Knowledge of Public Relations policies, practices and procedures; knowledge of writing and editing techniques; general knowledge of town programs, policies and structure; thorough skill researching and organizing data; ability to develop promotional copy and perform technical editorial work; thorough skill operating standard office equipment and hardware and software; thorough skill operating standard tools of the trade; ability to develop and execute a well rounded program of activities; ability to cooperate with and interpret museum philosophies to authorities and private groups and agencies and the general public; ability to write public information reports and releases. Ability to supervise and direct the work of others.

Education And Experience

Associate's degree in museum studies or related field such as Curatorial studies, Interpretive studies, Tourism and facility management and moderate experience working in a museum, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor Degree is preferred.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices).

Special Requirements

Ability to work occasional nights and weekends for programs and events as scheduled.

CPR/First Aid/AED certification within one year.

Valid driver's license in the State of Tennessee.
