What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Intern - ADA position at Town of Flower Mound?
Under direct supervision, inspects and documents the condition of Town infrastructure in Public ROW for ADA compliance, assists in the update of Town GIS data related to existing Town infrastructure, assists in preparing and updating the Town's ADA Transition Plan, and performs other tasks related to engineering as assigned.• Inspects existing Town infrastructure in the Public ROW for compliance with ADA.
• Documents the condition of the existing Town infrastructure.
• Works with the GIS division to update the location and condition of the existing Town infrastructure.
• Assists in the development and updating of the Town's ADA Transition Plan.
• Assists in preparing cost estimates and schedules for repair or replacement of existing Town infrastructure as it relates to the ADA transition plan.
• Performs various administrative and technical support duties to include conducting research and surveys, assembling information, compiling and analyzing statistical data; preparing various reports; and other special projects as assigned by the Engineer Manager or his/her designee.
• Operates various types of office and field equipment to include computers, facsimiles, smart level, etc.
• Duties will require working outside in all kinds of weather conditions and substantial amounts of walking, stooping, and bending.
• Adheres to personnel, departmental, and safety policies and procedures.
• Informs supervisor of all work activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• A High School Diploma and working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering or a related field is required.
• Must have a valid Texas driver's license and driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
• GIS and computer experience is preferred.
Must submit to and pass a post-offer, non-regulated drug test and thorough background checks (including criminal history).KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
• Must have a good knowledge of the principles and concepts pertaining to basic civil engineering; good analytical, quantitative, communicative, leadership, organizational, and public relations skills.
• Must be able to read and understand highly technical or specialized material such as engineering plans, specifications, etc.; interpret and apply city and state policies and codes; function under general direction; and work independently.
• Must have excellent English oral and written communicative skills to include spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
• Must be able to work effectively and efficiently with citizens, the general public, Town Council, public officials, and employees; maintain a pleasant personality at all times; work independently in absence of specific instructions with little or no supervision; work well under pressure and stress; handle multiple tasks; prioritize and organize work assignments; and maintain confidentiality of confidential matters.
• May work extensive hours.
