Incentive Pay - up to $ 250/month (including $ 100/month Paramedic Pay)
Paramedic candidates hired who have not obtained their Basic Firefighter Certification will be compensated at the Firefighter Recruit Pay of $74,439.56 /year or $6,203.30/month.

In order to be considered for this position, you must meet one of the following:
-Firefighter/Paramedic
-Paramedic only
-Firefighter/EMT

****HIRING PROCESS:
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: The Town of Flower Mound uses a multi-step process to select the best candidates for hire. These steps are outlined below. It is important that you provide a working e-mail address as this is the preferred method of communication. Complete the online application and supplemental questions. You will be contacted via e-mail with the written exam date, location, and time once the job posting has closed after February 2, 2025.

• Written Test - A study guide will not be provided prior to the test.
We will have two written test sessions: Friday March 14, 2025, in the evening and Saturday, March 15, 2025, in the morning. The written tests will be held in Flower Mound, TX, and you will only need to attend one session. If you meet the minimum qualifications, you will receive email communication including more detailed information about the written test once the job posting closes on February 2, 2025.
Preliminary Background
Personal History Statement- Candidates passing the written test will be required to complete a Personal History Statement (PHS).
• Physical Agility Test - The physical ability test (PAT) is on March 24, 2025, at Tarrant County College Northwest Campus at 4801 Marine Creek Parkway, Ft. Worth TX 76179. Candidates will not be required to do the PAT if they have completed it within 6 months of March 24, 2025.  A certificate from TCC will be required as proof of completion. Candidates passing the written examination are invited to the PAT.

- If you are a Paramedic, then we will need the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Paramedic OR NREMT-P certificate/license.
- Out of State or Military applicants must have a FF2 certificate with IFSAC seal and attach a copy of DSHS OR NREMT certificate/license.
You must have a Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Firefighter certificate to proceed to the background process. ***

• Responds to fire incidents and performs tasks including interior attack, ventilation, salvage, overhaul, or fire ground support operations as directed.
• Responds to emergency medical incidents and serves as a member of the medical team as directed working with fatalities, serious injuries, and other emergencies that may occur. Assists with transportation of patients to medical care facilities; evaluates the condition of patients, assesses pertinent information about medical profile and injuries; and determines treatment in accordance with EMT training.
• Participates in pre-fire analysis, reviewing target hazards within the district, and establishing actions to be taken at the time of an incident.
• Operates and maintains fire apparatuses, ambulances, and other department vehicles at calls or at incident scenes.
• Operates numerous types of rescue, emergency, and fire suppression equipment as necessary; operates, inspects, repairs, and performs other technical tasks related to maintaining the equipment.
• Keeps abreast of Town streets, construction sites, occupancies, and fire hydrant locations in assigned district; studies building plans and fire prevention systems in buildings in assigned district.
• Prepares and submits fire reports, medical reports, and other reports as directed.
• Participates in cleaning and maintaining facilities, equipment, and apparatuses; ensures that all equipment and apparatuses are in a constant state of readiness for emergency calls.
• Performs inspection and maintenance on fire hydrants in accordance with Departmental policy.
• Attends training sessions, seminars, and meetings for certification and continued education programs in firefighting and emergency medical services.
• Gives tours of assigned facility, demonstrates fire equipment and apparatus, and participates in other educational programs for various groups and general public pertaining to a variety of life safety topics.
• Participates in public education programs by assisting in conducting fire department tours, demonstrations, and presentations.
• Informs supervisor of all work activities and all public inquiries and complaints.
• Adheres to personnel, departmental, and safety policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
• Must hold or obtain a valid Texas Class "B" Driver's License within six (6) months of hire date and current driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.

EDUCATION:
• Must be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician by the Texas Department of State Health Services by hire date.
• Must be a certifiable Firefighter in accordance with Texas Commission on Fire Protection Personnel Standards and Education by hire date.
 • A Certified Paramedic by the Texas Department of Health is preferred.
• Employees who are hired without a Firefighter and/or Paramedic certification must successfully complete training as mandated by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection or the Texas Department of State Health Services in exchange for employment with the Town; must reimburse the Town the full cost of such training if employee separates from the Town before the third anniversary of hire date.

 Must submit to and pass a post-offer, non-regulated drug test and thorough background checks (including criminal history).KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
 • Must have extensive knowledge of fire and emergency medical services, the behaviors and chemistry of fire and hazardous materials, application to intervention, physiology, anatomy, human body, subsystems medicine, drugs, and laws and legal responsibilities affecting emergency health care and fire protection.
 • Must have excellent skills in math, reading and comprehension, public relations, and Advanced Life Support techniques.
 • Must be able to work under stress and exhibit emotional stability and courage to perform hazardous firefighting duties.
 • Must be able to maintain a 48 hour on and 96 hours off work schedule and additional hours as required.
 • Body art can be visible if approved. If not approved, it must be covered by uniform shirt.
 
 PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

 • Must be able to read directional signage and medical information; talk to emergency medical patients and victims in emergency situations; hear sounds of low intensity or to distinguish voice from background noise; must have far visual acuity and peripheral vision for hazardous situations; color vision adequate to identify red, green, and yellow colors, color coded markings, and warning signs; see and respond to imminently hazardous situations; walk; and run.
 • Must be able to make mathematical calculations.
 • Must be able to make quick, sound decisions in emergency situations.
 • Must be able to perform strenuous physical activities to include exerting up to 100 lbs. of pressure, strength, and endurance; wear heavy protective equipment to include respirators; detect odors (smell smoke or hazardous materials); lift up to 200 lbs. of heavy objects or bodies; crawl; bend; run; kneel; climb on and off equipment; work indoors, outdoors, underground, in trenches; on level, slippery, sloping, unstable, and muddy terrain; and under constantly noisy conditions.
 • Must be able to work in adverse environmental and hazardous conditions to include mechanical, electrical, fume odor, dust/mist, chemical, heat, smoke, hazardous materials or toxic substances, infectious or contagious diseases and blood borne pathogens.
