What are the responsibilities and job description for the Graduate Engineer position at Town of Flower Mound?
Under general supervision, reviews engineering plans and specifications for private development and performs other tasks related to engineering and construction projects.
WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Reviews plans for private development projects to ensure compliance with Town Design Criteria.
- Monitors ongoing private development construction projects.
- Prepares final documentation and assists in final acceptance of private development projects.
- Reviews, calculates, and assesses appropriate fees for private construction.
- Provides customer assistance to Town residents and prospective developers.
- Assists in short and long-range planning.
- Prepares engineering reports.
- Performs various transportation, engineering, and planning administrative and technical support duties to include conducting research and surveys, assembling information, compiling, analyzing, and interpreting engineering and statistical data; preparing various reports; reviewing construction plans; and administering other special projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
- Investigates complaints, analyzes problems, and follows through with detail recording of normal and abnormal problems.
- Operates various types of office equipment to include computer, plotter, copy machine, facsimile, binding machine, etc.
- Assists the Engineering Manager in the administration of the department by providing assistance in implementing general policies and procedures.
- Edits, formats, and distributes various documents for departmental activity.
- Makes independent decisions on problems encountered within the assigned activity.
- Adheres to personnel, departmental, and safety policies and procedures.
- Informs supervisor of all work activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is required.
- Must be able to obtain an Engineer-In-Training within one year of employment.
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- AutoCAD and computer experience is preferred.
Must submit to and pass a post-offer, non-regulated drug test and thorough background checks (including criminal history).
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
- Must have a good knowledge of the principles, concepts, and laws pertaining to municipal engineering; good analytical, quantitative, communication, leadership, organizational, and public relation skills.
- Must be able to read and understand highly technical or specialized material such as engineering plans, specifications, etc.; interpret and apply city and state policies and codes; function under general direction and to work independently.
- Must have a general working knowledge of routine engineering techniques and standard materials and equipment used in municipal engineering; and skill in the design and construction of engineering projects.
- Must have excellent English oral and written communicative skills to include spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
- Must be able to follow oral and written directives; work effectively and efficiently with citizens, the general public, Town Council, public officials, and employees; maintain a pleasant personality at all times; and work independently in absence of specific instructions with little or no supervision; work well under pressure and stress; handle multiple tasks; prioritize and organize work assignments; and maintain confidentiality of confidential matters.
- May work extensive hours.
