JOB
Under direct supervision, performs routine and repetitive tasks to maintain and beautify the parks, street medians, rights-of-way, facilities, athletic fields, and other properties of the Town.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Operates commercial landscape and turf care equipment, to include: line trimmers, farm tractors, weed-eaters, augers, tillers, tree spades, chippers, stump grinders, welders, chain saws, vehicles, and other light to heavy equipment.Performs a variety of duties for trees, shrubs, flowers, etc., to include: planting, cultivating, pruning, removal, selection, shaping, fertilizing, treating for insects, watering, and mulching. Prepares flower beds, works in trenches and walks through brushy areas. Applies herbicides, insecticides, and pesticides under direct supervision of a licensed applicator; calibrates and maintains spraying systems. Interprets spray labels and maintains an inventory of prepared chemicals and applications. Collects and disposes of trash in mowing areas, right-of-way areas, median areas, and buildings of the Town. Installs and repairs irrigation systems, repairs leaks in control lines and piping, and repairs controllers; checks irrigation systems on a continuous schedule for control of proper operations and performs preventative repairs of irrigation heads and valves.Assembles, installs, maintains, and inspects playground and park equipment.Prepares and maintains athletic fields during seasonal periods, to include: mowing, marking foul lines, installing and removing goal posts, moving and inspecting bleachers and benches, and maintaining athletic equipment and supplies.Performs vehicle inspections and preventative maintenance to Town equipment and vehicles, to include washing, checking, and servicing. Assists in preparing for special events, programs, athletic tournaments, and Town functions. Works safely in close proximity to high-speed vehicle traffic along medians.Adheres to Town, department, and safety policies and procedures.Informs supervisor of potential hazards, problem areas, and inquiries of the general public and work activities.Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES: General working knowledge of turf or lawn care. Skills in operating small equipment such as weed-eater, chain saw, lawn mower, and hand tools.Knowledge of safe handling of small power tools and equipment. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Physical Abilities: Ability to talk, read, see, walk, hear, and follow oral and written directions. Ability to work in trenches and tight or enclosed areas. Ability to walk through brushes and entangled areas. Ability to coordinate hands, feet, and eyes necessary to operate and repair equipment and vehicles. Ability to perform strenuous physical activities, to include: exerting up to 100 lbs. of pressure; lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying heavy objects, such as trimmers, mowers, tree limbs, and other equipment and supplies up to 100 lbs. several times per day; shoveling, crawling, bending, kneeling, and digging holes for several hours per day; climbing on and off equipment; and operating vibrating equipment. Ability to work indoors, underground, outdoors, in confined spaces, in trenches, on level, slippery, sloping, unstable and muddy terrain, and under constantly noisy conditions; work in adverse environmental conditions, to include inclement weather, e.g., rain, sleet, snow, heat, sun exposure, and hazardous conditions including mechanical, fume odor, dust/mist, chemical, exposure to insects, noxious plants, and snakes.
