What are the responsibilities and job description for the Signal Technician position at Town of Flower Mound?
Installs, repairs, troubleshoots, fabricates, and maintains all types of traffic signals and flashers in accordance with Town, state, and federal standards. Performs maintenance on equipment used within the division and complete work orders according to Town policy.•Installs, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, programs, and fabricates all traffic signals in accordance with the Texas and Federal Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD & MUTCD) and Town standards.
•Installs, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, programs, and fabricates all school zone flashers and other flashers in accordance with the Texas and Federal Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD & MUTCD) and Town standards.
•Installs, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, and programs routers, radios, and switches related to the ATMS signal system communications.
•Performs construction inspection duties for new signal construction to ensure quality of products and services.
•Completes daily reports on all field activities, dispatched calls, work orders, service requests, and provides information for cost analysis reports utilizing Cityworks™ computer work order system.
•Interprets blueprints, schematics, engineering plans, town maps, and technical manuals.
•Sets out work zone for job site in accordance with the TMUTCD and MUTCD.
•Programs and deploys traffic counters, changeable message boards, and radar trailers as necessary.
•Performs turning movement counts utilizing hand counter as necessary.
•Trims trees that are obstructing traffic signals.
•Identifies and reports visibility obstructions that pose traffic hazards.
•Maintains stock levels on trucks per the supervisor's direction and restocks as necessary.
•Maintains an inventory of maintenance and operational supplies, tools, equipment, etc., and services on a routine basis.
•Performs vehicle inspection and preventative maintenance of vehicle and equipment.
•Informs supervisor of potential hazards, problem areas, citizen inquires, and all work activities.
•Adheres to personnel, safety, and departmental policies and procedures.
•May be required to assist the Signs and Markings section in the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of signs and markings.
•May be required to assist with special events in the areas of traffic control.
•Position requires employee to perform emergency on-call duty.
•Performs other duties as assigned.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
•A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
•Knowledge of computers, networking, and routers is preferred.
•Must obtain International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level I Traffic Signals Certification within one year of employment.
•Must possess a valid state issued Class “C” Drivers License.
•Must be able to obtain a valid Texas Class “A” Commercial Driver's License, with proper endorsements and without restrictions, within six (6) months from the date of hire. Your driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
•Must have one year of experience with traffic signals.
•Must have at least one year of traffic signal experience, at least two years of electrical/electronic installation and maintenance experience, or at least two years of formal electrical/electronic education with one year of related installation and maintenance experience.
Must submit to and pass a post-offer, non-regulated drug test, and thorough background checks (including criminal history).KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
•Must have a general working knowledge of traffic signal installation and repair or electronic/electrical equipment repair.
•Must be able to read and comprehend schematics, diagrams, technical manuals, and engineering plans.
•Must be able to maintain an effective and pleasant working relationship with employees, contractors, and the general public.
•Must work evenings and weekends as needed and respond within 30 minutes to an on-call or emergency call back.
