Position Definition
Counselors are responsible for supervision, safety, and overall experience of campers involved in the
Foxborough Recreation Camp system. Counselors will be tasked with implementing,
programming, policies, and procedures as directed by the Recreational Director. Counselors provide direct assistance to campers in the use of the facility as well as equipment and other items.
Interaction with parents, guardians, and caregivers will be mandatory. This is a seasonal position with an expectation of working 7-10 weeks during the summer.
Essential Functions
Help implement a weekly schedule of activities and special events to campers such as sports, arts and crafts, games, field trips, meal times, and swimming.
Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes being responsible for camper’s safety and their whereabouts at all times.
Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to Supervisor.
Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, daily attendance, and inventory of supplies.
Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
Work complimentary with other camp counselors to ensure a successful experience for all campers and staff alike.
Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or situation dictates. Regular attendance at the workplace is required.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Must be at least sixteen or older. Must have experience working with children in a group setting. Must attend all required staff training sessions.
Additional Requirements
First Aid, CPR/AED certification preferred. Training will be offered if non-certified.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill
Thorough knowledge of First Aid, CPR/AED techniques as well as all health and safety regulations. When necessary, confidential information may be disclosed, requiring appropriate judgment and professionalism.
Ability to be an effective team member who communicates openly, respectfully, and professionally between participants, parents/guardians, staff, and Program Manager.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform tasks of instruction as they relate to the assigned duty. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, run, talk and hear; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges.
