EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS (FULL-TIME)
The Town of Gate City is now accepting applications for a full-time Director of Public Works. This is a non-exempt position responsible for managing all operations of the Public Works Department, including infrastructure maintenance, personnel supervision, sanitation services, budgeting, and emergency response. The position reports directly to the Town Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise public works staff and operations
- Manage town infrastructure: streets, storm drains, water/sewer lines, parks, buildings, and equipment
- Oversee department budgeting and compliance
- Coordinate with contractors and address citizen concerns
- Remain on-call 24/7 for public works emergencies
Minimum Qualifications:✔ Valid Virginia driver’s license and CDL
✔ 5 years of relevant experience, including supervisory experience
✔ B.S. degree preferred (may substitute with experience)
✔ Strong leadership and communication skills
✔ Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physical tasks as needed
Compensation:
Salary is DOQ/DOE. Includes full benefits: health, dental, vision, VRS retirement, life/disability insurance, paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, and a 457 plan with employer match.
