FULL-TIME PUBLIC WORKS CREWPERSON
The Town of Gate City is hiring for two (2) full-time positions in the Department of Public Works. These permanent, non-exempt positions are under the supervision of the Public Works Director and offer full benefits, including health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, Virginia Retirement System (VRS), paid leave, and a 457 retirement plan with employer match.
Position Summary:
Duties include general labor, street and sidewalk maintenance, refuse collection, utility work (water/sewer line installation and repair), snow removal, groundskeeping, and equipment operation. Work is physical and performed in indoor and outdoor conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED (with possible exceptions)
- Valid Virginia driver’s license
- Ability to lift 75 lbs and work in various weather conditions
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Preferred:
- CDL license
- 1 year of related experience
- Construction or equipment operation background
Compensation:
Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience (DOQ/DOE).
