What are the responsibilities and job description for the Municipal Judge position at Town of Gilbert?
Note: Due to upcoming retirements we anticipate a start date in June/July of 2025.
Minimum Qualifications and Special Requirements:
- Each applicant shall possess a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Arizona for a minimum period of five years;
- Each applicant shall have sufficient experience and temperament to preside over the Gilbert Municipal Court and continue to meet all qualifications as may be established by the Arizona Supreme Court and as required by law for such judges
- Each applicant must possess high ethical standards with no doubt regarding their personal and professional ethics, with a demonstrated history of abiding by the ethical principles as outlined in Arizona Rules of Professional Conduct (Arizona Supreme Court Rule 42) and the Arizona Code of Judicial Conduct;
- Each applicant must possess the highest standards of integrity, demonstrated by doing what the law requires regardless of public opinion or political ideology; as well as an impeccable record of not being influenced by identity, race, gender, political status, wealth, or relationship of the party or lawyer before the judge;
- The ability to read and understand legal documents, statutes, ordinances, and high-level correspondence, perform general math calculations, utilize professional legal research practices and writing skills; manage a budget; operate a personal computer and basic computer programs;
- Valid Arizona Driver's License;
- All applicants for judicial positions for the municipal court shall successfully complete a background check and a pre-employment drug screen administered by the People Team prior to the final appointment.
