The Network Engineer I is responsible for supporting and maintaining enterprise systems in the data center environment (both physical and virtual), working with staff and stakeholders to develop technology strategies that address current and future needs, and advise management of risks to the Town. This position analyzes, designs, installs, configures, and maintains the Town’s network, including, but not limited to: routers, switches, firewalls, IPS/IDS equipment, VPN, and wireless equipment.
Essential duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Architect, install, and support connectivity for the Town’s LAN/WAN network resolving complex problems to minimize customer impact;
- Manage implementation of enterprise networking systems and attend project meetings to define the equipment needed;
- Provide advanced technical support to other team members for better service delivery;
- Decide and make recommendations as needed;
- Manage and monitor system alerts and network performance to gather data for trends and reporting;
- Manage and maintain network security systems to prevent unauthorized access to resources within the Town network;
- Add, remove, or change configurations to provide appropriate authorization and connectivity through ACLs, VPN, and NATs;
- Architect, manage, and support backup solutions scheduling and frequency to maintain highly available systems and application uptime;
- Other duties as assigned.

Candidates for the Network Engineer I position must possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management, Information Systems, or closely related field. However, a non-technical degree can be acceptable if complemented with the appropriate certifications and/or experience;
- Three years of experience in the Information Technology industry;
- Two years of Enterprise Network Design and Administration, including Firewall Security;
- Must be able to pass a Police background check;
- Valid Arizona Driver License;
- Must participate in on-call rotation;
- CISCO CCNA preferred;
- CompTIA Network preferred.
This position is an At-Will position and is FLSA Exempt – ineligible for overtime compensation.
This department is currently working in a hybrid environment, with partial remote work. Modified work privileges are approved at the sole discretion of the department director; as such, the department reserves the right to modify or discontinue modified work arrangements at any point.
Regardless of work location (Remote, On-Site, or Hybrid) Town of Gilbert employees are required to reside in the state of Arizona by hire date.

- Information Technology security best practices and procedures for safeguarding systems/data, including Disaster Recovery;
- Firewall Security Administration, Routing, Switching, VLANs, and ISP connectivity.
