THIS IS A NON-AFFILIATED ROLE WITH THE GLASTONBURY POLICE DEPARTMENT. 37.5 HOURS PER WEEK, MONDAY THROUGH FIRDAY. ELIGIBLE FOR ALL FULL-TIME TOWN OF GLASTONBURY BENEFITS.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of a Police Department supervisor, incumbent performs clerical assistant functions within different divisions of the police department to satisfy the needs of the agency, including CALEA standards, pistol permits, personnel records and/or criminal history files.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Maintains department files, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and applicable standards.
- Enters and retrieves information to records, files and reports in a timely manner.
- Performs general clerical tasks, which may include answering phones, filing, typing letters, documents and other communication.
- Reviews written policies and procedures for compliance with professional standards and makes recommended changes.
- Conducts law enforcement research.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Assists in conducting inspections of departmental and division files for compliance with accreditation standards.
- Processes pistol permits.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE:
- Ability to collect and analyze data, prepare clear and concise staff reports, memos, and other correspondence, maintain file system, evaluate operations and make recommendations
- Ability to read and understand materials concerning law enforcement and criminal justice processes
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to push/pull objects less than 20 pounds. Must be able to perform such tasks as filing, writing, typing, using a calculator, and skills which require hand-eye coordination such as using a computer
- Must be able to see objects closely, as in reading and typing documents; hear normal sounds with background noise, distinguish voice patterns and communicate through speech.
- Must be able to pay attention to detail and concentrate for sixty (60) minutes or more with frequent interruptions, remember multiple assignments given over long periods of time, and understand the theories behind several related concepts
- May be exposed to dust, fluctuation in inside temperatures, and electro-magnetic radiation as in computer screens
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years of general office experience
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION:
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain applicable job specific certifications once hired
