General Statement of Duties
Plans and coordinates daily camp schedule and activities with advisement of the Recreation Supervisor.
Supervises, leads, and directs camp staff.
Participates in the interview process to hire counselors, if possible.
Coordinates with the Recreation Supervisor to assist with counselor training.
Communicates supply and equipment needs to the Recreation Supervisor.
Is familiar with camper's emergency information and keeps an updated roster on hand.
Administers emergency response and first aid if needed. Documents all accidents on the issued accident report and always notifies parents or guardians.
Ensures camper safety and supervision by assigning counselors to roles and groups.
Acts in a courteous but firm way when dealing with the participants.
Keeps all camp documents and supplies organized.
Documents behavioral incidents by campers or staff and notifies the Recreation Supervisor.
Collects, reviews, and submits all staff time sheets to the Recreation Supervisor on a weekly basis.
Formally meets with counselors once per week to review plans, schedules, and address any program highlights or areas for concern.
Ensures proper staff coverage on all camp trips and assigns groups for each trip.
Enforces the "buddy system" throughout the duration of camp.
Complete mid-camp staff evaluations and submit to the Recreation Supervisor.
Season: Weekdays starting the end of June until mid-August (7 weeks). Must be available for pre-season work.
Hours: 8:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M., Approximately 40 – 42 hours/week
Qualifications
Must have 24 weeks of experience as a camp counselor in an organized camp setting and at least 16 weeks in an administrative and supervisory role in an organized camp OR 2 years' experience in a child care setting plus additional experience in an administrative and supervisory role. Education in a related field can be substituted for work experience.
Must have or be willing to obtain First Aid and CPR/AED certification. Must be comfortable and confident communicating directly with staff, parents, and participants. Must be at least 21 years of age. Subject to a background check.
