General Statement of Duties
The Assistant Director assists the Director in the successful implementation and oversight of Kamp Kairphree, and pre-camp planning. The duties that the Assistant Director must undertake during and prior to the start of camp include the following responsibilities:
Conducts camp staff interviews and assists in the hiring process prior to the start of camp.
Takes inventory of current supplies and provides the Recreation Supervisor with a list of supplies needed.
Develops and implements creative programming for camp activities.
Leads large groups of kids in camp games, activities, crafts and off-site trips.
Creates session calendars and assigns campers and counselors to units.
Documents behavioral incidents by campers or staff and notifies the Recreation Supervisor.
Implements and ensures that all staff and campers are following camp protocols and procedures.
Makes responsible decisions and judgments in the Director’s absence. Must be able to fill in for the Director in emergency situations
Administers emergency response and first aid if needed. Documents all accidents on the issued accident report and always notifies parents or guardians.
Assist with staff supervision, conducting weekly staff meetings, completing evaluations for all staff.
Communicates respectfully, consistently, and effectively with parents.
Assists with camp wrap up and bringing equipment back to storage locations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Season: Weekdays starting the end of June until mid-August (7 weeks). Must be available for pre-season work.
Qualifications
Must possess at least twenty-four (24) weeks of work experience as a camp counselor in an organized camp setting and at least sixteen (16) weeks in an administrative and supervisory role in an organized camp; OR two (2) years of work experience in a child care setting plus additional experience in an administrative and supervisory role. Education in a related field can be substituted for work experience.
Must have or be willing to obtain First Aid and CPR/AED certification. Must possess the proven ability to communicate effectively and confidently with staff, parents, and participants. Must be at least 21 years of age or older. Subject to a background check.
