What are the responsibilities and job description for the Park Ranger position at Town of Greenwich, CT?
General Statement of Duties
Provides customer service and acts as a source of information and assistance to inform the public of rules, regulations, ordinances, and municipal codes pertaining to the use of parks and facilities.
Walks the facility paths, beaches, ferries, islands, parking areas, and meets ferry boats, remaining alert to physical safety hazards and visitor behavior that may be overly loud or disruptive or otherwise violates town ordinance or rules.
Monitors park areas and town owned land for damage or safety hazards to grounds, facilities and playground equipment and reports incidents to appropriate personnel.
Anticipates and solves problems, responds to complaints and educates public on park safety rules and regulations.
Calls for police assistance as needed. Completes corresponding incident reports as necessary; may verify user permits.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years of work experience in a customer service environment
Must be 21 years of age or older.
First Aid, CPR, AED training a plus.
Other Necessary Qualifications:Skilled in handling difficult situations and enforcement with firmness, and tact. Handles conflict and uncertain situations. Skilled in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
Ability to tactfully and courteously deal with the general public and to maintain composure when dealing with complaints.
Ability to verbally communicate clearly and concisely and to direct the public as required.
Ability to prepare and keep simple operating records.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Connecticut.
Ability to walk, and stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to occasionally run, climb, crawl, stoop, twist, balance, or otherwise use physical agility in the performance of duties.
Ability to perform functions under adverse weather conditions, including under strong heat and humid conditions.
