General Statement of Duties
Qualifications
High school diploma plus two (2) years’ experience in sewer work.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Commercial Drivers’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement permitting them to drive in the state of Connecticut.
Must obtain Class II Collection Systems Certification, within one year of appointment.
Must obtain nine (9) CEU’s in a CTDEEP approved Wastewater Treatment Facility Operations Course, within six (6) months of appointment.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of the repair of sewers, pump stations, and related structures and equipment.
Proven knowledge of OSHA safety policies.
Proven ability to read drawings in order to conduct inspections, perform maintenance and mark out sewer locations for “Call Before You Dig”.
Demonstrated ability to operate tools and mechanical equipment used in sewer cleaning, maintenance work, and building repair.
Demonstrated ability to maintain records and files and complete reports.
Proven ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with contractors, colleagues, public officials and the public.
Proven ability to transport and operate portable generators.
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a personal computer and related software.
Demonstrated physical ability to perform all job functions, including lifting heavy equipment and objects, pushing, pulling, carrying, climbing, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders and cleaning.
Demonstrated ability to enter confined spaces and follow confined space requirements.
Proven ability to operate equipment standing or sitting for extended periods of time.

Job Description
Salary Range: T-09
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Duties and Responsibilities:
Cleans, maintains and repairs the components of the Town’s sewer collection system.
Maintains pumps buildings and equipment, including making repairs and adjustments, as needed.
Performs daily checks of pump stations, maintains daily logs and creates reports, as directed.
Marks out sanitary sewer infrastructure in compliance with Call Before You Dig (CBYD) requirements.
Investigates causes of cellar and street flooding due to sewer issues, sources of infiltration and inflow into the sewer collection system and possible illegal connections.
Responds to inquiries from the public.
Responds to emergency call outs, as required.
Carries an electronic notification device on a standby coverage schedule and responds appropriately.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Supports Town policies and philosophies.

All positions may be subject to an interview process. The Town reserves the right to limit the number of qualified candidates who will be invited to participate in the examination, or any part thereof.
All outside candidates will be required to undertake and successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination, which includes a substance abuse test that includes testing for THC (the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana), given at the Town's expense prior to employment if conditionally offered a part time, full time or safety sensitive position.
The Town of Greenwich has implemented a policy of background investigations all full and part time positions prior to hiring as part of the reference checking procedures for outside candidates.
