General Statement of Duties

Processes tax payments and provides administrative and customer service support on behalf of the Office of the Tax Collector.

Reports to the Assistant Tax Collector.


Qualifications

Education & Experience:
High school diploma, plus three (3) years of related work experience in accounting.

Required Certification:
Certified Connecticut Municipal Collector (CCMC) certification must be obtained within three (3) years of appointment to the position.

Qualifications:
Proven knowledge of standard accounting methods and practices.

Demonstrated knowledge of general customer service principles and practices.

Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, including basic Excel and Word, as well as industry-specific software applications such as Quality Data Service (QDS).

Skilled in accurate data entry and in performing detailed mathematical calculations.

Demonstrated ability to perform accurate account reconciliations, as well as maintain detailed financial records.

Proven ability to multi-task and to perform a variety of functions in a fast-paced environment.

Demonstrated ability to apply the appropriate laws, ordinances, regulations and departmental policies and procedures to routine decisions.

Proven ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and supervisors.

Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Collects and records tax payments in the Town’s electronic software system, providing appropriate receipts to tax payers.

Applies payments to real estate, motor vehicle, personal property and sewer assessment accounts as appropriate.

Reconciles cash and checks; assists with preparation of bank deposits.

Analyzes and verifies internal consistency, completeness, and mathematical accuracy of accounting documents, making necessary adjustments as authorized.

Performs account reconciliations; troubleshoots and researches discrepancies, making recommendations for resolution.

Compiles and prepares daily reports.

Performs related clerical or mathematical posting work, creates and types forms, templates, specifications, brochures and other information.

Responds to inquiries from the public and internal clients providing prompt, accurate information in a courteous, customer service-oriented manner.

Assists with training and oversight of assigned staff.

Supports Town policies and philosophies.

Performs related work as assigned.

Supplemental Information

All positions may be subject to an interview process. The Town reserves the right to limit the number of qualified candidates who will be invited to participate in the examination, or any part thereof.

All outside candidates will be required to undertake and successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination, which includes a substance abuse test that includes testing for THC (the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana), given at the Town's expense prior to employment if conditionally offered a part time, full time or safety sensitive position.

The Town of Greenwich has implemented a policy of background investigations for all full and part time positions prior to hiring as part of the reference checking procedures for outside candidates. The investigation will only be conducted as the last step prior to an offer. Refusal to sign the release form will terminate the candidate's further consideration.
