What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Dockmaster (Seasonal) position at Town of Greenwich?
Manages Town operated marine facilities on a rotating basis filling in for Seasonal Dock Masters and Fulltime Dockmasters on their scheduled days off. Communicates any issues or tasks performed to the permanent marina Dock Master. Enforces rules and regulations of the Town of Greenwich, Connecticut DEEP and other agencies governing the use of dock and harbor facilities, and performs custodial/maintenance work in the building and facilities.
Position reports to the Operations Manager, Boats and Harbors.

- Graduation from high school plus some experience in maintenance, handling, storage and mooring of vessels and related marine facilities and equipment.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience to #1 above.
Must be able to pass a swim test
Regulates the operation and use of the boat house locker rooms; rack storage, trailer storage and winter storage for all types of boats.
Ability to interact with Parks & Recreation office staff via computer, phone and written correspondence and interact with the general public with courtesy and tactfulness.
Monitors facility use by resident and non resident public and transient traffic at the docks, tracks ownership of unknown vessel drop offs and ensures safe storage of vessels.
Cleans and cares for the boathouse and restrooms and grounds surrounding the building. Daily inspects and makes minor repairs to the floats, pontoons and docks within the facility, reporting any discrepancies to the marina dock master.
Assists in launching, hauling, and storing pontoons and floats; assists in the maintenance and repairs of floats, docks, and pontoons and maintains related equipment under the control of the Marine & Facility Operations Division.
Performs related work as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of hauling and storage of boats, floating equipment, etc.
Skilled in methods of handling and proper storage of boats.
Ability to maintain and record data in a personal computer.
Ability to maintain records and files and complete reports.
Ability to understand and enforce safety and environmental regulations and Town regulations governing use of the dock and harbor.
Ability to deal politely and tactfully with the public in enforcing rules and regulations.
Ability to perform various semi-skilled repair tasks.
Ability to work independently and to understand and carry out general instructions and policies.
Ability to perform the physically demanding functions of the position including boarding and debarking vessels, docks, floats, as well as lifting heavy objects, bending and kneeling for periods of time.
Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
Ability to swim.
Ability to work weekends and Holidays from April through November
Employees to report to work in clean Town-issued M&FO shirt while on duty, and are also required to wear appropriate footwear.
