What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Counselor - Byram Archibald Neighborhood Center (BANC) After School Program position at Town of Greenwich?
BANC is a licensed after school program that is dedicated to serving the surrounding community by establishing programs that nurture children in their social and emotional growth and provide them with an opportunity to explore the world through recreation and interaction with other children. The program serves 75 children ages 5-12 years old who reside in the Byram community. Most of the children who attend the program attend the New Lebanon Elementary School.
Reports to the Youth Program Administrator.
Must be 16 years or older.
Must be available during program hours; Monday-Friday from 2:30-6pm.
Knowledge and experience working with young school-aged children.
Ability to communicate with others in a respectful and courteous manner.
Knowledge of a variety of social, educational and recreational activities.
Knowledge and adherence to State regulations as related to staff-student ratios, snacks and safety issues.
Ability to participate in CPR, First Aid, Emergency Medication Training and State of CT Department of Children and Families Mandated Reporter training.
General Statement of Duties:
Provides child-care and supervision to school age children in grades K-5
Provides assistance with arts & crafts activities.
Provides planning, coordination and supervision of sporting activities, free play activities, etc.
Provides guidance and support with homework and reading.
Attends field trips and in-service exhibits with the kids
Promotes teamwork through social/emotional learning activities
Implement safety procedures as per CT state licensing. This includes first aid, food allergies, age appropriate activities, cleaning toys and refrigerator.
Creates attendance record at start of program and assist with child dismissal/sign out at end of program.
Creates room schedules and implement into daily schedule.
Ensures that there is proper coverage and staff to student ratios are maintained.
Assists Program Administrator and/or Program Coordinator with communicating to parents/families regarding school closing, early release, special events, illnesses, injuries and behavioral issues.
Sets up and clean up rooms each day.
Provides translation and/or communicate with Spanish speaking families.
Assists Program Administrator and/or Coordinator with paperwork, including physicals, registration and emergency medication forms
All positions may be subject to an interview process. The Town reserves the right to limit the number of qualified candidates who will be invited to participate in the recruitment, or any part thereof.All outside candidates will be required to undertake and successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination, which includes a substance abuse test that includes testing for THC (the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana), given at the Town's expense prior to employment if conditionally offered a part time, full time or safety sensitive position.
The Town of Greenwich has implemented a policy of background investigations all full and part time positions prior to hiring as part of the reference checking procedures for outside candidates. The investigation will only be conducted as the last step prior to an offer. Refusal to sign the release form will terminate the candidate's further consideration.
