The Greenwich Youth Conservation Program (GYCP) is a summer employment program for Greenwich teens ages 14 and 15, which offers teens a first job opportunity to learn teamwork and practical skills while working outdoors digging, planting and enhancing Greenwich parks and properties. There are opportunities for teens to engage with speakers and have recreation time. GYCP operates four two-week sessions.
The Greenwich Youth Corps is a summer employment program for Greenwich teens ages 16 and 17. The Program is a unique public/private program that successfully incorporates education, skill building and personal growth through two demanding four-week work sessions spent outdoors digging, planting, caring for Land Trust nature preserves, improving local habitats and learning about career opportunities in environmentally related fields.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma, plus some experience working with children; teaching experience preferred.
Special Necessary Requirements:
Valid Driver’s License.
Must be at least twenty-five (25) years of age due to requirements for operating the rental vehicle.
Must be available during program hours; Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:00pm starting June 23-August 14 (8 weeks).
Must obtain First Aid and CPR/AED certification prior to program start date.
Subject to Background Check and Pre-Employment Physical.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children.
Proven ability to safely operate a 7 to 12 passenger vehicle in the State of Connecticut.
Proven ability to communicate in a respectful and courteous manner.
Proven supervisory skills.
Demonstrated punctuality and reliability.
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervises, leads and directs teen participants.
Works under the direction of GYCP Youth Administrator, Department of Human Services and Parks and Recreation Supervisor or Land Trust Supervisor to assign job tasks and facilitate a safe work environment.
Establishes and maintains effective relationships with co-workers, participants, parents and general public.
Administers emergency response and first aid if needed; documents all incidents on issued accident report and notifies Director and Parents or guardians.
Leads and coordinates recreational activities.
Drives participants safely to worksites and locations throughout Town of Greenwich.
Spends full days outdoors.
Supports Town’s policies and philosophies.
Performs other related work as assigned.
