The Town of Groton, Connecticut seeks an experienced, customer service oriented culinary professional to manage the Thrive 55 Active Living Center kitchen. This position is responsible for staff oversight as well as being a working chef, creating and executing dishes, ordering and maintaining inventory, and overall responsibility for the safe and effective operation of the kitchen. This is a non-union, exempt, full-time position.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Food Services Supervisor is a working supervisor. This position prepares and cooks both hot and cold food and works on the line. The kitchen contains a grill, oven, steamer, walk-in freezer, and commercial dishwasher. The Supervisor is responsible to lead the kitchen functions in a safe and effective manner, including food safety, safe preparation and storage techniques, inventory and ordering, kitchen oversight and maintenance, creating and updating the menu, staff scheduling and day to day operations. The kitchen serves Monday - Friday 11 : 15 AM – 12 : 30 PM and occasional evening and weekend events.
The position prioritizes customer services, including the senior population, peers, and direct reports. The supervisor guides, supports, and provides feedback to kitchen staff. Two part-time positions support the chef’s position. This position also assists with the kitchen budget, ensuring adherence, as well as proper assessment of vendor costs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with a high school diploma and two years of culinary school, along with (4) four to (6) years of restaurant cooking experience. At least two years of experience in a position with supervisory capacity, is required. Institutional cooking experience and working with the senior population is highly desired. Experience leading others is preferred. A combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to successfully meet the requirements of the position may be considered.
Effectively communicates, both orally and in writing, with a focus on customer service and professionalism. Ability to provide support, guidance, and feedback to staff in an effective manner, supporting staff growth and accountability. Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel desired.
Criminal background, drug testing, and driving record checks required prior to employment.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES
Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. ServSafe Food Manager Certification is required.
