REPORTS TO: SENIORS SUPERVISOR
LOCATION: 32 CHURCH STREET
HOURS: UNDER 20 HOURS PER WEEK
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision of the Seniors Supervisor, operates a passenger bus to pick up and deliver senior citizens and others to various locations throughout the Town and elsewhere as required. Assures proper safety driving and regulations are followed at all times, keeps daily route sheets, and assists passengers to physically board and leave the bus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates a bus to pick up and deliver senior citizens and others to assigned designations and drive passengers home.
- Assures passenger safety at all times.
- Keeps daily time sheet and route sheets including a list of passengers, destinations, gas and oil consumption and mileage, and other reports, as required.
- Makes special trips out of town, as assigned.
- Assures proper bus servicing and equipment operations.
- Informs the Seniors Supervisor of bad weather driving conditions.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of bus operations for senior citizens and others.
- Knowledge of proper maintenance requirements for buses.
- Knowledge of Town of Guilford roads and locations.
- Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Skills in operating a passenger bus.
- Skills in routine maintenance of bus operations.
- Ability to prepare daily route sheets.
- Ability to operate handicap lifts on busses.
- Ability to assist disabled passengers, including but not limited to passengers in wheelchairs, into and out of vehicle.
- Ability to effectively assist and work with senior citizens and others.
- Ability to be courteous and considerate at all times.
- Ability to understand senior citizen services, programs, and needs.
- Ability to learn transportation programs and regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment Human Performance Evaluation (HPE).
- Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol tests.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, senior citizens, and the general public.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all Town requirements and policies.
- Ability to work independently.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) plus special training and two to three (2-3) months of related experience or equivalent.
- Must possess and maintain a Connecticut Commercial Driver License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) Endorsement.
