Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant to support our team in various administrative and operational tasks for the Assessing Department. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of financial concepts, enabling them to contribute effectively to our projects. This role requires a proactive individual who can manage multiple responsibilities. Position is responsible for provision of administrative and clerical services related to the operation of the Assessing Department related to real estate and personal property, motor vehicle and boat excise and exemptions in accordance with local and state statutes, regulation, and policies of the Board of Assessors.
Duties
- Provides public assistance in response to various inquiries in person, by telephone or via email; explains regulations and procedures to the general public; provides information to property owners, realtors, bank officials, loan companies and government agencies regarding property valuations; interprets tax laws and regulations affecting property valuation and tax assessment for taxpayers.
- Locates deeds and provides copies to the public.
- Collects fees and forward funds to the Town Treasurer’s office.
- Provides information on real estate exemptions to elderly, blind, veterans, etc. and on chapter 61, 61A and 61B forms.
- Receives and reviews applications for excise tax abatements and occasionally adjust amounts due.
- Assists with mailing documents including exemption forms, Chapter 61A and Chapter 61B applications and Chapter 59, section 38D questionnaires.
- Maintains the department’s files.
- Refers complex issues to other appropriate department personnel.
- Provides clerical services to the Board of Assessors relating to the daily office operations.
- Performs other related job duties as required.
Experience
- 1 year of related experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- DOR course 101
