Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, operating equipment to construct, improve and maintain roads and drainage systems; helping grade and set up base for new street construction and building sites; operating trucks to haul materials, plow snow, and clear ice from streets and sidewalks; assisting with installation and maintenance of storm drain systems, and performing routine road maintenance. Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands/Work Environment: Duties typically involve standing, walking, crouching, bending, stooping, and lifting both light and heavy objects. High degree of dexterity needed to operate and maintain job-related tools and equipment. Use of safety and protective equipment frequently required. Work is typically performed outdoors, at times in extreme cold, heat, and inclement weather.

- Operates heavy equipment in the maintenance and repair of town streets, including an excavator, loader, backhoe, dozer, dump truck, grader, chipper, and boom mower.
- Operates snow plows and sanding equipment.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools, including a chainsaw.
- Installs drainage pipes and catch basins.
- Removes tree hazards.
- Builds forms; pours and finishes concrete; lays brick and block.
- Assists in traffic control at work sites.
- Patches potholes and utility cuts.
- Sets and installs road and street signs.
- Installs signs and holiday decorations.
- Responds to customer service requests; completes work orders.
- Performs pre- and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections.
- Maintains assigned equipment; changes oil and filters; changes spark plugs; removes and installs chains, blades, and bars.
- Performs related duties.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a driver's license valid in the State of New Hampshire for the type(s) of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in street and drainage system construction and maintenance.
- Knowledge of established safety policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the geography of the town, including street names and locations.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
- Skill in the operation and maintenance of specialized equipment, tools and machinery, including an excavator, loader, bulldozer, backhoe, street sweeper, and dump truck.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
Salary : $25 - $28
