The Hanover Department of Public Works seeks qualified candidates for the position of Light or Heavy Equipment Operator. This is a full-time (40 hour/week) and benefits eligible position. If you do not currently hold a CDL, the Town of Hanover will assist you in obtaining certification if you are the right fit.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, operating equipment to construct, improve and maintain roads and drainage systems; helping grade and set up base for new street construction and building sites; operating trucks to haul materials, plow snow, and clear ice from streets and sidewalks; assisting with installation and maintenance of storm drain systems, and performing routine road maintenance. Other duties as assigned. Physical Demands/Work Environment: Duties typically involve standing, walking, crouching, bending, stooping, and lifting both light and heavy objects. High degree of dexterity needed to operate and maintain job-related tools and equipment. Use of safety and protective equipment frequently required. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Operates heavy equipment in the maintenance and repair of town streets, including an excavator, loader, backhoe, dozer, dump truck, grader, chipper, and boom mower. Operates snow plows and sanding equipment. Operates a variety of hand and power tools, including a chainsaw. Installs drainage pipes and catch basins. Removes tree hazards. Builds forms; pours and finishes concrete; lays brick and block. Assists in traffic control at work sites. Patches potholes and utility cuts. Sets and installs road and street signs. Installs signs and holiday decorations. Responds to customer service requests; completes work orders. Performs pre- and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections. Maintains assigned equipment; changes oil and filters; changes spark plugs; removes and installs chains, blades, and bars. Performs related duties.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in street and drainage system construction and maintenance. Knowledge of established safety policies and procedures. Knowledge of the geography of the town, including street names and locations. Skill in prioritizing and organizing work. Skill in the operation and maintenance of specialized equipment, tools and machinery, including an excavator, loader, bulldozer, backhoe, street sweeper, and dump truck. Skill in the use of hand and power tools. Skill in oral and written communication.
