What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Maintenance Technician position at Town of Hanover?
This position is responsible for building maintenance and minor repair, including the maintenance of HVAC systems, electrical, plumbing, minor carpentry, doors and lock sets, painting and light cleaning.
Major Job Duties
- Performs preventative maintenance of Town buildings.
- Performs construction, installation, finishing and renovation of Town properties including: interior walls and ceilings, flooring, rough and finish carpentry, doors and hardware, windows, minor roofing.
- Performs routine and minor plumbing, heating, and air conditioning repairs.
- Performs routine and minor electrical repairs.
- Performs routine and minor carpentry and locksmith repairs.
- Performs interior and exterior painting.
- Performs light cleaning and/or window washing.
- Cleans all roof and floor drains, and keeps them clean.
- Repairs building furnishings.
- Removes snow and ice from Town building walkways.
- Maintains and repairs street benches as needed.
- Cleans and maintains building exteriors, including, entrances, window wells, walls, trash enclosures, and building signs.
- Assists in set up and take down of events including but not limited to Street Fest, voting, functions at the Community Center, Howe Library, Municipal Building, etc.
- Repairs and maintains bus shelters.
- Performs minor furnace maintenance including cleaning and changing filters.
- Installs and removes air conditioners and HVAC panels.
- Inspects and repairs exit/emergency lighting and fire extinguishers.
- Maintains and repairs tools used in the maintenance of Town buildings.
- Responds to tenant complaints in Town housing units.
- May be on call for building-related emergencies.
- Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials and tools of general building maintenance.
- Skilled in both rough and finish carpentry.
- Basic knowledge of cabinetry and furniture repair.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools including but not limited to: planers, table saws, drill press, jointers and routers.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC systems.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical.
- Ability to climb ladders and staging.
- Ability to paint.
- Ability to follow safety requirements.
- Ability to use and care for a large variety of hand and power tools.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of a high school education and some specialized training or experience in the field of building repair and maintenance.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of New Hampshire for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
