ASSISTANT BUILDING INSPECTOR, Town of Henrietta, NY
The Town of Henrietta is looking to fill the position of full-time Assistant Building Inspector.
General Description: This position works reports directly to the Director of Building and Fire Prevention. Assisting the Director in inspecting buildings, issuing building permits, enforcing state and municipal building codes, and investigating reported violations of the Town Codes pertaining to land and property use, and other duties as related to the position.
Eligibility of Employment:
Must possess or successfully achieve NYS Certification as a Code Enforcement Officer; must have experience in plan review and inspections as well as enforcement of the International Code Council (ICC) Codes and the New York State Supplements. This position falls under the Monroe County Civil Service Rules and is classified as Competitive.
Typical Work Activities:
Duties of the position include the review and approval of submitted plans and specifications for new construction, additions, alterations, repairs and demolition of buildings and structures for compliance with state and local codes, performing necessary field inspections for compliance with said codes.
Issues Permits, Certificates of Compliance and Occupancy as well as stop work orders and orders to vacate and maintains appropriate records for such activities.
Explain and clarify the requirements of state and local codes as well as the local zoning ordinances to contractors and the general public.
Inspects reported violations of the Town codes and ordinances, makes onsite investigations to verify complaints, issues letters of warnings to violators and court appearances.
Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
Good knowledge of the methods, practices and materials involved in building construction; good knowledge of the International Code Council Family of Codes and the New York State Supplements; good knowledge of the building trades; working knowledge of architecture and engineering; ability to explain state and local laws, code and ordinances; ability to read and interpret working plans, drawings and specifications; ability to conduct inspections of buildings under construction; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, building contractors and the general public; good judgement; attention to detail; willingness to work outdoors; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
