Overview:
The Town of Herndon boasts a unique balance of a strong sense of community and being a next-generation small town and each employee is pivotal in providing exceptional services to our citizens. The Town has an immediate need for a Youth Sports Class Instructor for the Parks and Recreation Department.
In this position, you will provide the following service to our community:
- Instruct skills-based sports classes for youth primarily ages 3 - 15 for the following sports:

- Volleyball
- Skateboarding
- Other combination classes
Responsibilities:
- Create curriculum for youth skills-based recreation classes.
- Plan and structure specific practice drills, games, and other sports activities
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants
- Monitor and enhance the performance of participants through positive reinforcement and constructive feedback
- Teach and reinforce the rules and fundamentals of various sports
- Promote good sportsmanship, team play, and positive attitudes among participants
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding participant progress and behavior
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a youth sports instructor or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of various sports rules and techniques.
- Ability to teach and motivate children and teenagers. Ability to communicate with parents/caregivers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- First aid and CPR certification desirable.
Working Hours:
- Classes typically run 6-8 weeks per session.
- Average hours: 2-4 hours per week.
- Flexible schedule required, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
