The EMT-Paramedic provides advanced life support (ALS) services to individuals in need of emergency care within the community and surrounding areas. This role involves conducting comprehensive patient assessments, administering advanced medical interventions, and ensuring safe and professional transport of patients to medical facilities. The EMT-Paramedic must maintain compliance with Regional Emergency Medical Organization (REMO) protocols and participate in station duties to uphold a clean, functional, and organized environment. Certification in Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is required.
- Deliver advanced life support (ALS) care according to New York State and REMO protocols.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments and implement advanced pre-hospital medical treatments, including but not limited to airway management, IV administration, medication administration, and cardiac monitoring.
- Use specialized training in PHTLS, PALS, and ACLS to manage diverse and complex patient conditions, including trauma, pediatric, and cardiac emergencies.
- Collaborate with other first responders and medical professionals to provide comprehensive care.
- Communicate effectively with patients, family members, and hospital staff to ensure continuity of care.
- Complete and maintain detailed patient care reports and other required documentation.
- Remain up-to-date with REMO protocols and guidelines.
- Participate in REMO-required trainings, certifications, and continuing education to ensure compliance.
- Adhere to local, state, and REMO protocols when administering ALS care.
- Ensure that ambulances are fully equipped, stocked, and ready for emergency response, including ALS supplies.
- Perform regular inspections of vehicles and equipment, documenting and reporting any issues.
- Clean and sanitize ambulances and equipment after each call to maintain infection control standards.
- Participate in routine cleaning and organizational tasks to maintain a clean and operational station environment, including:
- Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors.
- Cleaning bathrooms, restocking supplies, and maintaining kitchen facilities.
- Taking out trash and recyclables, ensuring all areas are well-organized.
- Assisting in inventory management and organizing equipment storage areas.
- Ensure overall cleanliness and readiness of the station for emergency calls.
- Assist in providing basic and advanced first aid education to the community when requested.
- Participate in public awareness events and community health initiatives as directed.
- Certification: Valid New York State EMT-Paramedic certification.
- Certifications: Current BLS, PALS, and ACLS certifications are required.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- REMO Compliance: Up-to-date with REMO protocol certification and participation in continuing education.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to lift and move up to 100 pounds and handle the physical demands of the job.
- Strong knowledge of ALS procedures, trauma care, pediatric emergencies, and advanced airway management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work calmly and efficiently under high-stress conditions.
- Willingness to assist with station duties and foster a team-oriented environment.
This role requires working both indoors and outdoors, often in challenging environments and varying weather conditions. Shifts include nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure full coverage. The EMT-Paramedic will work closely with other team members, and duties will encompass both patient care and station upkeep.
