SUMMARY

Looking for a fun summer job that you'll never forget? The Town of Hope Mills needs Summer Camp Counselors for its upcoming Summer Camp Program. The Hope Mills Summer Camp Program consists of eight weeks of camp, From June 9th - August 1st, for children ages 5 to 12. Camp daily hours are 7 : 30am - 6 : 00pm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Qualified candidates should possess the ability to perform the following essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation :

  • Supervising a group of children ages 5-12, always ensuring their safety.
  • Leading and participating in a variety of camp activities such as games, arts and crafts, and educational sessions.
  • Creating a fun, safe, and inclusive environment.
  • Assisting in the set-up and cleanup of camp activities and equipment.
  • Collaborating with fellow staff to deliver a high-quality camp experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least age 16 by the start of camp
  • High school Diploma or GED equivalent or a current student
  • Must be available to work weekdays, approximately 30 hours per week, between June 9 - August 1, 2025 (with the exception of June 19 and July 4). Additional required training will also be required prior to the start of camp.
  • Must pass background and drug screening
  • TB Test is required and will be scheduled by the Town HR Department prior to start date
  • CPR and First Aid Certified, or able to obtain upon hire
  • Necessary Skills and Attributes

  • Ability to work with children and be able plan and direct activities for participants in a variety of settings;
  • Responsible, dependable, adaptable, and punctual
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills and leadership qualities
  • Ability to make quick and sound decisions
  • Ability to understand, carry out, and provide written and oral directions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    Working Conditions

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This is a fast-paced, sometimes high-pressure environment, responsible for the supervision of young children in a variety of settings. Staff must be safety conscious and committed to providing a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all participants. They must also able to deal with children, parents, and other staff in a positive, courteous, tactful, and professional manner.

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job in compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.     Overtime Compensation Agreement

    Consistent with the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, it is the town's policy to compensate non-exempt employees for overtime work with compensatory time off or overtime pay. As part of the acceptance of any offer of employment with the Town, employees in non-exempt positions agree to accept, at the discretion of the town, either compensatory time off or overtime pay, as appropriate compensation for overtime work that may be required to perform as an employee of the Town of Hope Mills.

    Conditions of Employment

    Employment with the Town of Hope Mills is at-will and is conditional meaning it may be contingent upon the completion of pre-employment screenings, to include a drug test, criminal history, verification of education and / or employment and professional references.

    Part-time employees are eligible to contribute to 401(k) & 457(b) retirement plans. No other benefits are available to part-time employees at this time.
