Job Overview:

This position performs general custodial duties such as floor care, sweeping, dusting, mopping, glass cleaning, restroom cleaning, and all other building care as assigned. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain an acceptable level of cleanliness for the Town facilities. This position may be required to work shifts including evenings, some holidays, and during inclement weather.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Qualified candidates should possess the ability to perform the following essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation:

• Washes floors, furnishings, equipment, windows, doors and walls with cleaning solutions and disinfectants
• Vacuums carpets
• Cleans and maintains the restrooms, replenishes soap, tissue, towels and similar supplies
• Empties and cleans waste receptacles and disposes of trash
• Picks up litter in parking lots and other Town areas
• Dusts and wipes cabinets, closets, shelves, vents, pictures and desks
• Cleans glass doors, windows, display cases
• Replaces light bulbs and cleans lighting fixtures
• Handles cleaning chemicals responsibly
• Performs assistance at Town-sponsored events
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
• Some paid commercial custodial experience is preferred
• Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver's license, and an acceptable driving record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to be reached by telephone for after-hour and emergency call-outs
• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions
• Ability to write legibly and coherently
• Ability to operate or use a cart with all types of cleaning supplies, mops, brooms, dust mops, and glass cleaning equipment, buffers, vacuums, and carpet cleaning machines, powered sweeper/scrubber, Town vehicle and all other equipment necessary to perform assigned duties
• Ability to effectively communicate with others

This includes the ability to work in, around, under and on top of building related equipment and fixtures and to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. Work is performed inside and outside in all weather conditions. Record keeping knowledge is required. Incumbent must be able to hear normal sounds, distinguish sounds as voice patterns and communication through human speech. Good vision is required for all functions.

Employment with the Town of Hope Mills is at-will and is conditional meaning it may be contingent upon the completion of pre-employment screenings, to include a drug test, criminal history, verification of education and/or employment and professional references.
