ABOUT HOT SULPHUR SPRINGS:
The Town of Hot Sulphur Springs is a mountain community located in the heart of Grand County Colorado. Hot Sulphur is a small community surrounded by natural beauty and recreational opportunities throughout Grand County. We are seeking an enthusiastic, positive, and motivated Certified Operator or an applicant with little experience eager to start a rewarding career in the Water and Wastewater Industry.
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Public Works Director, responsible for the operation of water treatment plants, distribution systems, maintenance and repair of water mains, service lines, valves, pumps, and water-related appurtenances.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential functions include operating and maintaining water and wastewater treatment plants and distribution systems, including water sampling for lab analysis and water quality compliance in accordance with regulations, math calculations for water treatment and distribution, inspect, repair, and maintain water valves, fire hydrants, pumps and related equipment; on-call to assist in after-hours emergencies of water and wastewater treatment plants or distribution systems; perform water and sewer utility locates and coordinate work with contractors; inspect new water and sewer service and water and sewer main installations; read and repair water meters; and perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: Education and experience:
Must be 21 or older; high school diploma or GED. Colorado Class “D” Water Plant Operator, Class 1 Distribution Systems, Class "D" Wastewater Plant Operator, and Class 1 Collection System Certifications required within one 18 months of employment. Colorado Class “C” Water and Wastewater Plant Operator Certifications and Class 2 Distribution and Collection Systems Certifications preferred. Must have Class "B" Water Plant Operator Certification within 36 months of hire. Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license with a safe driving record; computer experience; the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing; the ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds; and the ability to work on-call and various shifts, including weekends and holidays. Outside experience will be evaluated to determine the extent of equivalency to the duties of Hot Sulphur Springs and to determine the appropriate level. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Water treatment and wastewater treatment experience preferred
- Mechanical knowledge and ability to operate heavy equipment
- Proficiency in data collection and analysis
- Experience with MS Suite and other applications or ability to learn
- Ability to perform equipment repair and maintenance
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
