Job Title: Maintenance Technician / Grounds Maintenance

Job Summary: The Maintenance Technician / Grounds Maintenance will perform a variety of tasks to ensure the proper maintenance, care, and upkeep of municipal buildings, grounds, and public spaces. This role involves both hands-on physical work and supporting the team in maintaining the cleanliness, functionality, and aesthetic value of the community's outdoor areas, parks, and facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Grounds Maintenance:

• Mow lawns, trim grass, and maintain landscaping (e.g., trees, shrubs, flowers).
• Weed and mulch garden beds and maintain flower beds and other outdoor spaces.
• Clean, maintain, and repair walkways, trails, and public spaces.
• Perform seasonal planting, trimming, and removal of dead plants.

Facility Maintenance:

• Conduct routine inspections and basic repairs on municipal buildings, parks, and public spaces.
• Perform minor repairs on equipment, vehicles, and tools used for grounds maintenance.
• Maintain parking lots, curbs, and drainage systems to ensure safety and cleanliness.
• Assist with the setup and breakdown of events held at public venues or parks.

Safety & Cleanliness:

• Ensure proper waste removal and recycling of materials from public areas, parks, and other facilities.
• Operate tools and equipment safely and in accordance with established procedures.
• Report any safety hazards, damage, or areas in need of attention.

Equipment & Supplies Management:

• Operate and maintain a variety of equipment, including lawnmowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping tools.
• Maintain inventory of landscaping and maintenance supplies, ensuring necessary stock is available.
• Assist in scheduling routine maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
• Maintain a clean uniform and good personal hygiene practices.

Collaboration and Communication:

• Work collaboratively with officials, community groups, and contractors to complete maintenance tasks efficiently.
• Communicate effectively with the mayor regarding maintenance issues or concerns.
• Assist with emergency response efforts such as snow removal or storm clean-up.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or facility maintenance.
• Knowledge of basic maintenance techniques, tools, and equipment.
• Ability to operate power tools, lawn equipment, and vehicles safely.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions.
• Basic understanding of safety standards and protocols in outdoor and facility maintenance.
• Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Must reside within the local area, with no more than a 30-minute commute to Jane Lew Town Hall.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with snow removal or seasonal maintenance.
• Knowledge of irrigation systems and their maintenance.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Certification in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or related fields.

Working Conditions:

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and operating machinery.
• Work outdoors in varied weather conditions, including heat, rain, and cold temperatures.
• Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for special events, emergency repairs, or seasonal tasks.

Pay: $36,000.00 - $42,000.00 per year
