Position Overview: Camp Loads of Fun is seeking energetic and dedicated individuals to join our team as “Head Counselors” or “Summer Camp Counselors”. These positions play a vital role in crafting a positive, safe, and engaging experience for campers throughout the summer program. Located at the Herbert I. Johnson Recreation Center, Camp Loads of Fun offers a dynamic outdoor day camp experience with a variety of activities and enriching opportunities.

Qualifications
Age Requirements:
- Head Counselors: At least 18 years of age
- Counselors: At least 14 years of age
Prior Experience:
- Head Counselors: At least 2 years’ experience with school age children in day care, summer camp, classroom, or recreation setting
- Counselors: Prior experience with school age children in day care, summer camp, or recreation setting a plus but not required
Willingness to be a part of a team:
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting, fostering a positive and supportive camp environment.
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with campers, parents, and fellow staff members.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to respond to the dynamic needs of the camp environment.
Physical Conditions:
- Ability to be outdoors and actively engage in games and activities for much of the day.
- Capable of walking and transporting supplies between camp facilities
Certifications
- Willingness to obtain CPR/AED/First Aid certification before the start of the camp season.
- Must pass Vermont State Background Check
Responsibilities: As a camp counselor, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and enriching experience for the campers; below are the main responsibilities of the position. Note: additional duties/ responsibilities may be required to ensure the safety of all campers.
Supervision and Engagement
Head Counselors: Supervise your assigned age group, ensuring compliance with camp policies, and serve as the liaison between your group and camp leadership.
Counselor: Supervise assigned campers and uphold camp policies and expectations. Utilize support of Head Counselor & Camp Leadership in the event camp expectations are not being met.
- Ensure that each child is properly signed in and/or signed out daily, maintain accurate attendance records, complete.
- Demonstrate the ability to multi-task and effectively supervise multiple children within a group setting.
- Establish and build positive relationships with children in your group, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment
- Supervise children during all scheduled activities, ensuring their safety and engagement. Join campers in games and craft activities to model intended outcomes
Daily Schedule Execution
Head Counselors: Support camp leadership and activity specialists in planning age-appropriate activities for campers.

- Arrive on time at your scheduled start time each day to ensure that all necessary materials and equipment for the day's activities are in order and ready for use.
- Coordinate the execution of the provided daily schedule, organizing and leading field games, crafts, and other enjoyable activities.
- Assist outside vendors and facilitators in execution of their activities/ presentation
- Communicate schedule changes to camp director and group counselors
Communication:
Head Counselors: Attend weekly check-in meeting with Camp Leadership
Counselors: Regularly update Head Counselors on issues or concerns and promptly report them to the Camp Director.
- Be available during drop-off and/or pick-up to communicate camper updates to guardians
- Communicate effectively with co-counselors, parents, and other staff members to ensure a collaborative and informed camp environment
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and provide camp experience reports.
Camp Area Maintenance:
- Maintain cleanliness or organization of your camp area
- Return all camp supplies to proper location after use
- Assist campers with packing personal items to limit number of items lost/ forgotten
Hours and Compensation:Seasonal, Full (40 hours/week) and Part time(16-32 hours/ week) positions are available. Camp is in session June 23rd- August15th, 2025, and runs from 8:30am-5pm Monday – Friday. Required staff trainings will take place prior to June 24th.
An hourly wage of $14.10- $18 an hour is available for counselor positions, commensurate with experience. An hourly wage of $18.50-20.00 is available for Head Counselor positions, commensurate with experience.
