Summary of Position:
The position of Lifeguard is a vital role that ensures the safety of guests by supervising swimming activities and by ensuring policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed at all times. Lifeguards must be prepared to act responsibly in emergency situations, prevent emergencies from arising, and enforce all facility rules.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervises swimming activities at the facility and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
- Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
- Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
- Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
- Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
- Assists with chlorine residual water tests, records, charts of water tests and recording of accidents.
- Adds chemicals to pool water as directed.
- Preforms light cleaning of pool facility.
- Instructs or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming as needed.
- Able to resolve conflicts to ensure a safe pool environment.
- Other required duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience:
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Must have valid lifeguard safety certifications/CPR/First Aid/or willing to obtain the certifications.
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
- Prior Lifeguard training and/or experience preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and swimming.
- Must be able to swim 50 yards in 4 ft. of water and retrieve a 10 lb. brick from the bottom of the pool.
- Must be able to work in warm, humid environments for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds frequently.
- Must possess auditory, verbal, and visual capabilities to adequately communicate with staff and guests.
Special Requirement:
Must be flexible with schedule and available to work: days, evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts.
