Summary of Position:

The position of Water/Sewer Resources Technician is part of the town’s Public Works department. An employee in this class performs a variety of work in the construction, installation and repair of water and sewer lines and pump stations. This position requires a minimum of a “C” Distribution certification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation and repair of water and sewer lines
  • Pump Station maintenance and repair
  • Ensuring Pump Stations are pumped on a timely basis
  • Performs maintenance and repair on sewer lift stations and water pumping equipment
  • Responds to citizens request, concerns, and issues; performs field review; meets with citizens
  • Prepares a daily log of maintenance and repairs as well as daily job work orders
  • Heavy equipment operation
  • Assist with spreading asphalt to repair potholes and utility cuts
  • Assist with cleaning right aways on public streets and property including limb cutting, mowing grass, spraying for weeds
  • Assist with traffic control and flagging
  • Assist with setting up work zones
  • Performs general landscaping and restoration of job sites
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment
  • Any other task designated by the Public Works Director or Water/Sewer Resources Foreman.

Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • General knowledge of the safe use, operation, and preventive maintenance of the equipment which is assigned.
  • Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.

Physical Demands:

  • Due to the dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to wear necessary PPE.
  • Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather conditions while completing work assignments, i.e., rain, heat, sun, cold.
  • Must be able to traverse various terrains.
  • Must be able to perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing.
  • Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds constantly to lift objects.
  • Must possess the visual acuity to operate mobile equipment and monitor site progress.

Special Requirement:

  • Possession of a valid North Carolina Commercial B driver’s license
  • Must obtain a minimum of a C Distribution water certification within a reasonable time frame as established by the Town of Landis.
  • Must obtain a minimum of a Class 1 Collection Certification within a reasonable time frame as established by the Town of Landis
  • Mandatory “on call” status
  • May require mandatory call backs during inclement weather
  • May included nights, weekends and holiday
  • Additional Certifications and cross training may warrant additional increases in salary as approved by the Town Manager.

*The Town of Landis will allow up to three (3) chances to pass required certification classes, after which, termination or transfer will be considered.
