What are the responsibilities and job description for the Therapeutic Recreation Intern position at Town of Lexington?
The Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Intern will work under the supervision of the department's Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) and will assist in performing a variety of professional and administrative work in planning, developing, organizing, scheduling, directing and implementing accessible and inclusive recreational, social and cultural programs for all ages and abilities. Applications close March 1st, 2025.
Qualifications
- Valid First Aid and CPR/AED Certification
- Must be a student from an accredited college or university in Therapeutic Recreation and planning to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
- CORI checks to be conducted
- Must have reliable transportation
- Strong leadership skills, compassionate, flexible and responsible
- Ability to learn and use recreational software used by the department
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Aid in the development and coordination of new and innovative initiatives and/or programs for the department
- Assist in program, activity or equipment modification as necessary
- Conduct participant intake assessments and interviews
- Assist with the creation and implementation of participant inclusion plans
- Provide Direct Support
- Advocate and educate staff and the community on Therapeutic Recreation and inclusion
- Assist with staff and volunteer management and supervision
- Complete a special project
- Assist with administrative tasks and duties as needed
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings
- Understand and comply with the Town and departmental policies and procedures
- Prepare and participate in weekly meetings with your supervisor to assess internship progress
- Submit a final evaluation of the internship to your supervisor
