Position Description

The Town of Marana is seeking a highly motivated Water Quality Specialist to join the water quality team in the Water Department. This is a full-time position and an exciting opportunity for someone interested in monitoring the quality and compliance of the drinking water by ensuring regulatory compliance as well as management of the Town's backflow prevention program. The selected candidate will be responsible in performing technical duties in the inspection, testing, sampling, and monitoring of the water treatment and distribution water systems for process control and to ensure compliance with federal and state-mandated requirements..

Normal Business Hours : Monday - Friday and will participate in the on-call Rotation Schedule

Expected Hiring Range : $24.31 / hour - $29.78 / hour

Salary Range : $24.31 / hour - $35.25 / hour

Placement within the expected hiring range is dependent on direct experience, internal equity and / or budget

Examples of Duties

Operates as a lead operator in maintaining, servicing, and repairing water treatment disinfection equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on advance treatment systems.

Assists in training new operators in the operation of SCADA systems and troubleshoots water treatment and production facilities.

Assist the Chief Water Quality Operator with regulatory compliance on current water regulations, sampling, backflow prevention, and regulatory inspections.

Assist in updating sampling plans, SOP's, and schedules required by Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) and other regulatory agencies.

Plans sampling events and maintains working relationship with laboratories.

Utilizes, maintains, and submits databases / reports for water quality and backflow data to regulatory agencies : reviews and interprets laboratory analysis.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency plus six months of training / education past the high school equivalency

Over three years of experience in water treatment or water quality sampling, field testing disinfection monitoring, or closely related field.

Lead Worker performing essentially the same work as those directed, and includes overseeing work quality, training, instructing, and scheduling work.

ADEQ Distribution II certification with the ability to obtain ADEQ Distribution III within 1 year of hire date

ADEQ Treatment I certification with the ability to obtain ADEQ Treatment II within 1 year of hire date

Ability to obtain Backflow Certification within one year of hire date

Valid Arizona Driver License

Must pass a pre-employment physical, a 50-pound lift test, and a respirator questionnaire

Ability to pass both the Town of Marana background check and a motor vehicle records check
