ASSISTANT HARBORMASTERS
The Town of Mashpee Department of Natural Resources welcomes applications for part time Assistant Harbormasters; $20.00/hour. Position works up to 19 hours/week in the shoulder season (late-September through mid-May) then transfers to a seasonal position, up to 40 hours/week, including weekends, holidays, and some evenings from mid-May through late-September. Positions open until filled.
Minimum Requirements: High School Graduate or GED; experience working in a similar or like position; and professional boating experience required. Coast Guard, police or maritime experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training or experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the job. Knowledge of boating and Mashpee Town By-laws, MGL Chapter 90 Section B. Basic seamanship skills and ability to operate vessels in accordance with all Coast Guard navigation rules. Must be a minimum age of eighteen (18). Must successfully pass a hands on Boating Skills and Trailering Test. Must possess a valid MA driver’s license (Class D) and MA Boating Safety Certification. Must possess current CPR and First Aid certifications or obtain upon appointment. Must successfully pass a C.O.R.I. background check.
Responsibilities: Patrols waterways in Mashpee and enforces all waterways and boating laws; writes and issues violations and citations as required; participates in search and rescue operations on the waterways; installs, removes, maintains, and cleans Aids to Navigation; performs vessel pump-out duties; operates and tows trailers and trailers with vessels; operates departmental vehicles, and vessels in accordance with all navigational and safety rules.
