POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE : Lifeguard Manager
DEPARTMENT : Beach
REPORTS TO : Deputy Beach Manager or Beach Manager
SUPERVISES : Lifeguards
JOB TYPE : Seasonal May 24, 2024 - September 2, 2024
WORK SCHEDULE : As assigned, based on department needs. Weekends / Evenings required.
SALARY : In accordance with established pay scale by Beach Manager
POSITION SUMMARY :
The Lifeguard Manager is a seasonal position with the Town of Middletown responsible for overseeing all functions and activities at the beach related to the hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating lifeguards to ensure a safe swim zone and surrounding areas. This position is responsible for the prevention of incidents and for aiding swimmers. Responsible for ensuring the safety of beachgoers by preventing and responding to emergencies. Overall responsibility of patron safety and lifeguard operations. Assist the Beach Manager or acts as Beach Manager in his / her absence as designated.
I ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

- Assists with the hiring, training, and scheduling of lifeguards throughout the season including pre-season.
- Supervises, directs work, and evaluates the performance of lifeguards.
- Ensures that water safety rules and regulations, and sanitary requirements are met and enforced. Addresses issues due to non-compliance accordingly.
- Develops and conducts training programs for staff in water safety, first aid, and CPR as necessary. Ensures high program standards are followed. Provides regular in-service training to staff as needed.
- Ensures that all required certifications of staff are maintained.
- Performs regular safety inspections of the beach and equipment to reduce hazards and to provide maximum safety to patrons.
- Receives patron complaints and suggestions and responds appropriately.
- Suggests safety program improvements.
- Performs emergency rescues, first aid and resuscitation.
- Maintains First Aid Room Iinventory and supervises the care, and maintenance, of lifesaving supplies and equipment. Makes recommendations to re-stock supplies or equipment accordingly.
- Acts as a liaison between the public, staff, and office personnel.
- Plans and facilitates staff meetings and in-service training as needed.
- Notifies supervisors of disturbances, emergencies, and staff performance problems.
- Assists with the opening and closing of the Beach Building.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Assist Beach Manager with pre-season beach preparation and operations as needed.
