We are seeking a qualified and motivated candidate to fill the part-time position (5 days / week, 5.5 hours per day - 29.5 hrs / wk) of Land Use Assistant I / Permit Technician.
Essential :
Applicants will be required to provide a full range of technical and administrative duties in support of the Building, Code Enforcement, and Zoning departments within the Office of Community Development (OCD). This is a highly visible position within the departments providing administrative services and information to the public. Candidates must be comfortable dealing with diverse population and in all circumstances present a professional demeanor with the general public. This role is crucial in building relationships with other departments, outside agencies, applicants and other professional partners. Experience with and knowledge of diverse software platforms required. Rate of pay depending on experience.
Duties and Responsibilities :
The position is responsible for the receipt, examination / review, and management of applications for building and related permits. This position serves as liaison between the building department and all other departments to ensure that permits are processed in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring follow-up with other key staff for completion of process. Familiarity with building, zoning and code enforcement functions along with knowledge of Building and Zoning regulations preferred. This role is key to the successful implementation to our new electronic permitting system - PermitEyes. This role will accept all building department permits and payments, report on all building department statistics, including quarterly, annually to support the Community Development Director.
Qualifications :
Looking for a candidate who is willing to learn, is self-motivated and can work in a fast-paced environment. Enthusiasm is key. The successful candidate must possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus at least 2 to 4 years of progressively-responsible government and / or secretarial / administrative experience demonstrating required knowledge, skills and abilities. Equivalent education and experience will be considered. This position requires the candidate to become certified as Permit Technician I or the ability to receive certification within one year of hire.
