JOB SUMMARY:The Grounds Division Chief is responsible for the direction, coordination and supervision of staff involved with maintaining Town-owned parks, athletic complexes, community centers, and other public outdoor spaces.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:• Plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs all activities associated with the Grounds Division under the supervision of the Services Operations Officer.• Develops division policies and procedures with general direction and in accordance with established departmental standard operating procedures that conform with American Public Works Association’s best practices.• Conducts administrative tasks for the division to include absentee reports, payroll, employee evaluations, disciplinary actions, loss controls, hiring, etc.• Oversees the purchasing of division materials and supplies in accordance with Town procedures.• Conducts data entry and utilizes software to track service requests and work orders• Ensures safety procedures and policies are followed by all personnel.• Develops and manages the budget for the division, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation.• Develops manpower, equipment, and material requirements and makes recommendations, as requested.• Plans maintenance schedules for seasonal tasks such as mowing, pruning, fertilizing, and pest management.• Coordinates with other divisions, departments, and agencies for projects or events.• Oversees and prioritizes the maintenance and care of all parks, athletic complexes, and public green spaces. Ensures work is performed to Town standards.• Ensures that pest management, turf management, tree care, irrigation systems, and plant health are all handled according to industry standards and best practices.• Monitors the condition of facilities and equipment, arranging for maintenance, repairs and replacements, as needed.• Implements sustainable practices such as water conservation and environmentally sound pesticide utilization.• Ensures that the division complies with Town policies, environmental regulations, and safety standards.• Prepares regular reports on the status of projects, budgets, and team performance for the leadership.• Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:• Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, landscaping, turfgrass management, or environmental science.• Five (5) years prior work experience with increasing responsibility, including three (3) years of supervisory experience.• Or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.• Must obtain South Carolina Commercial Pesticide Applicator License (category 3 or 9) within 6 months of hire• Knowledge of and experience with synthetic turf preferred.
Salary : $72,716 - $90,890
