JOB TITLE: RECREATION SPECIALIST - SENIOR CENTERJOB SUMMARYThe Recreation Specialist, Senior Center, is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing recreational activities throughout the Town for seniors 50 at the Senior Center.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:• Supervises the programming, safety, cleanliness, and appearance of the fitness, exercise, and activity rooms of the Senior Center.• Plans, implements and supervises social, educational, and fitness related programs and activities.• Supervises and organizes appropriate senior programs.• Participates in the recruitment and supervision of volunteers and part-time employees and monitors all senior activities.• Supervises senior activities’ instructors.• Sets up and tears down for multiple activities and programs daily at the Senior Center.• Maintains Town vehicle.• Writes maintenance work orders for Senior Center activities building, and other locations.• Writes purchase orders for supplies and vendor services.• Completes associated clerical duties, as needed.• Completes assorted duties within the Senior Center facility, as needed.• Participates in other Town events such as Christmas Parade, Blessing of the Fleet, Children’s Day, etc.• Maintains Senior Center activity calendars and other associated publications for the Senior Center.• Performs word processing and data entry in various software and computer platforms.• Performs other related assigned duties.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:• Associate degree in Physical Education, Recreation or related field with three (3) years of related work experience;• Or equivalent combination of education and experience;• First Aid/ CPR, AED and Darkness To Light certifications/training are required within 3 months of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:• Knowledge of the benefits of physical education and wellness, social and educational programs;• Knowledge of management principles and municipal budgeting;• Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, supervising and inspecting group recreational activities;• Knowledge of the materials, methods, safety precautions and techniques related to recreational maintenance operation;• Skill in the use of computers;• Skill in the use of customer service;• Skill in the use of coordinating various programs and projects simultaneously;• Skill in the use of oral and written communication;• Ability to recruit, train and supervise subordinate personnel effectively;• Ability to work with groups of people of all ages.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:The work requires some agility and physical strength, such as moving in or about recreation sites, or standing or walking most of the work period. There may be need to stretch and reach to retrieve materials. Usually, the work will require extended physical effort over a significant portion of the workday.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, usage of computers and reading.The employee consistently maintains balance either sitting, standing or walking and is occasionally required to stoop or crouch. The employee may occasionally push, pull or lift and move objects up to 30 pounds.
