Job Description

Distinguishing Features of Work :

The Day Camp Counselor position will report directly to the Youth Programs / Day Camp Supervisor. This is a part-time / seasonal position responsible for supervising day camp participants in grades 1st through 6th at our fully outdoor day camp. The day camp counselor will be responsible for overseeing camp activities including, but not limited to group games, arts & crafts, swimming every day, weekly field trips, etc. Most of the day is spent outside at parks.

The Summer working season for this position is : May 28th through August 1st. Typical hours are 6 : 30am-4 : 00pm and / or 9 : 00am-5 : 45pm, Monday-Friday.

Mandatory Attendance Staff Training Dates : Wednesday, May 28th - Friday, May 30th

Duties / Essential Job Functions

• Assist with planning daily activities and field trips
• Lead recreational and educational activities (i.e., swimming, arts & crafts, group games, etc.)
• Interact with children while involved in all activities throughout the camp day
• Resolve occasional conflicts between campers and appropriately address behavioral issues
• Assist site supervisors with keeping accurate incident / injury / behavioral logs
• Ensure day camp site is clean and campers do not litter recreational areas or nature
• Communicate effectively with participants, parents / guardians and staff regarding rule infractions, questions, and concerns
• Take daily attendance and assist with sign out procedures
• Assist with keeping storage areas clean and organized
• Perform First Aid or take care of minor injuries as needed
