The Town of Normal Police Department is seeking a responsible individual to provide administrative support to law enforcement operations. This is a civilian position within the Normal Police Department assisting sworn staff members in obtaining, maintaining, securing, and disposing of all evidence and property recovered or collected through criminal investigation. This position requires significant attention to detail, excellent time management skills, the ability to work independently and to log evidence data into computer systems for tracking purposes.- Removes evidence from lockers and transports items to main evidence room.- Logs evidence items into computer systems.
- Maintains and updates paper evidence log.
- Sorts and places evidence in proper storage areas.
- Identifies items for lab testing and prepares lab intake forms.
- Completes DUI handling reports that detail process and packages DUI evidence for shipping to the lab for testing.
- Completes supplemental reports as assigned.
- Prepares evidence disposition forms.
- Disposes of evidence cleared for destruction by the court.
- Performs other duties as assigned.- Knowledge of computers, specifically Microsoft Office applications and Windows-operated computer software.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with department staff and other cooperating agencies.
- Ability to work effectively with the public, fellow employees, and various government agencies and officials.
- Ability to work independently and to handle multiple tasks with specific deadlines.
- Ability to lift items weighing up to 25 pounds.Knowledge of evidence packaging and shipping procedures is helpful, and a high school diploma or GED is preferred; or, any other training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must successfully pass background check if a finalist.
