What are the responsibilities and job description for the Illinois Art Station Part-Time Art Educator position at Town of Normal?
This regular part-time position is responsible for planning and implementing hands-on workshops for IAS patrons. Programming is largely geared toward children (i.e. individuals under twenty years of age) and their families. Under the general direction of the Education Coordinator, an Art Educator uses knowledge in art education and studio art, along with skills obtained through experience or specialized training to educate the public about the visual arts through artmaking, both on-site at the Illinois Art Station and in various locations across McLean County.-Assists the Education Coordinator in the development and delivery of fun, innovative, informal, and hands-on art classes and programs at the IAS.
-Provides visual arts instruction to participants of all ages, backgrounds, and art-making experience.
-Assists other art education staff and interns to ensure quality program delivery.
-Participates in and facilitates the evaluation of public arts programs including early childhood, day camps and summer camps.
-Assists with planning and implementation of programs for family events.
-Assists with afterschool and outreach programs as needed.
-Leads art education lessons.
-Maintains records of their educational activities and prepares reports as assigned.
-Performs other duties as assigned.-Must possess a wide knowledge of and enthusiasm for the visual arts.
-Must have experience planning visual arts lessons.
-Must possess excellent skill in oral communication and presentations, including one-on-one, small and large group settings.
-Must have classroom and/or studio teaching experience.
-Must be strongly self motivated and disciplined to work with minimal supervision.
-Must possess excellent skill in establishing and maintaining positive and effective working relations with Town officials and employees, external partners, parents and children.
-Must possess a teamwork orientation and a positive attitude for accomplishing the mission of the Art Station.
-Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
